A major thunder storm hit Denver this afternoon. It was so powerful it knocked out electricity to our block. Xcel Energy couldn’t figure out how it only took out our block but eventually found a transformer in the alley behind our house that had been impacted and fixed it. Nice not having to water manually!
Rain
It’s raining again. Not as violent as last night but moisture nonetheless.
Rain
Good thing I skipped watering this morning. We got a lot of rain this afternoon. When I started my drive home from Castle Rock it started hailing and was nearly a whiteout. Denver didn’t get nearly as severe weather but it was certainly raining at home so the yard was given a drink.
Rain
As I left the office this evening it started raining. As I began the drive up over the mountain pass back toward Denver it started hailing. It was incredibly loud and very difficult to see. It appears as though it didn’t hail at home, however, so our flowers are safe. It did start to rain shortly after I arrived home. Guess I was wrong about the unreliable nature of this morning’s weather report. Question remains if there will be enough moisture from this evening’s brief rain to mean no need to water tomorrow morning. I may risk it and skip the morning drink.
Watering
When I got up this morning I did the morning watering. When I first turned on the hose the sprinkler didn’t oscillate like it should. I walked over and the mechanism that normally causes it to move was disconnected. It may be nearing it’s end. Ug. It also looks like we need taller stakes for the roses and it looks like the tiger-eye that Kelli and Will planted is starting to open up. The weather report predicts heat again but also a possibility of a thunderstorm this afternoon or evening. I’m not holding my breath. I do wonder if it’s too late to plant herbs. Probably but if not perhaps I’ll indulge this weekend. We’ll see how my energy level holds up.
Watering
Did the morning watering. It’s supposed to be a hot day today and the rest of the week doesn’t look much different with daytime highs in the 90s. Guess summer is really here. 20-minutes per side.
Happy Father’s Day
In honor of Father’s Day, my father-in-law decided to buy me (a non-father, at least so far) a gift. We went over to Home Depot and he bought me a brush cutter and string trimmer which has interchangeable ends so I can later buy an attachment to do edging, or roto-tilling, or chain sawing or bush trimming. It’s the Ryobi BC26. Can’t have enough power tools!
Rain
It’s raining and this sounds like it might get in the way of our star gazing this evening. For once, I hope that it stops and that it clears up.
Mowing
I pulled some more weeds and did a little bit of directed watering on the new flowers planted yesterday. Randy, my father-in-law, was nice enough to mow our lawn and to work on the edges of the grass against the walkways in the front of the house. He was out there working with a manual trimmer when Tod, our neighbor from across the street, came over with a gas powered edger which provided a perfectly cut edge. I love having neighbors!
Garden
Kelli and Will came over to dig in our dirt. In honor of Dana’s birthday, they pulled a bunch of lingering weeds from the patch just in front of the house and planted a number of perennials. They also were kind enough to put the plant I received as a gift into the ground. It’s a nice splash of color!
