I woke up this morning and went out to find sprouting (I think). I got the sprinklers going after snapping a few pictures.
Watering
It’s been one week since we started this project. We were hoping for more of a sign of growth by now. We’ll keep watering and hoping.
Watering
As with every morning I was out watering just after waking up. I was hoping to come out and find signs that it had rained overnight (ever optimistic) but no such luck. If it rained I didn’t see any signs. The weather report is for low 70s with a chance again for thunderstorms in the afternoon. Reports from the aftermath of yesterday’s tornadoes were hopeful. One of the tornadoes was more than a mile wide and yet there was only one death reported. The news this morning carried a story about a daycare center in Windsor, Colorado where the staff gathered the children in the gym and then acted as human shields to protect the youngsters as the roof was taken right off the building. No casualties and the children escaped with minor scrapes and bruises. As the tornado passed the staff realized they could smell natural gas so with some quick thinking they evacuated the children into the bank vault of the bank across the street. Aerial photos of that area showed everything but the daycare center and the bank were essentially leveled. Extraordinary!
Watering
So the rain seems to have never made it to our yard. I finally gave up waiting for it and started the sprinklers. It’s a poignant reminder of the insanity of grass-covered lawns in this part of the country when the nation faces a water shortage and the world faces ecological crisis. Amazing how powerful the pressure is to not have the ugliest yard on the block. *GRIN*
Watering
Dana came home midday to do some watering today. It looks like it might rain this afternoon. There was severe weather to the north of us and tornadoes touched down as nearby as Greeley, Colorado (about an hour away). We had a Tornado Watch at the courthouse but nothing more than that. I do hope we get some rain this afternoon.
Watering
I was up early and really didn’t want to get out of bed. Not a satisfying night’s sleep. I got the watering going. It’s supposed to be in the mid 70s today and it might rain. It’s going to stay in the 70’s for the next few days. That’ll be a nice change for the yard. Perhaps this will help with the middle of the large side of the front yard, which remains a bit less green than the rest.
Watering
Dana took care of the night watering as well. Looks like the plumber stopped by mid afternoon (even though Dana told him she wouldn’t be here). He checked the pressure on the outside of the house and discovered that it was set to the same pressure level as the inside of the house. He did say that he thinks he installed the limiter low enough that if we redo the lawn and have a sprinkler system installed we can put the system on before the limiter. In other words, for now, we are out of luck. Oh well.
Watering
Dana came home mid afternoon to take care of the watering. It seems like we have a lot of green around the edges of the yard but we’re still struggling in the middle. We’ll see what happens.
Watering
It’s supposed to be in the high 80s today. Tomorrow may be a bit cooler and it might rain (not holding my breath though). I was up before my alarm and got right outside to start watering. Covered both sides. While I still have no idea if the new seed is growing, the old grass is getting quite high. I know ACN said to wait until the new seeds are 2″ or taller to cut the grass the rest of the grass is growing like crazy and is already higher than 6″ in many spots. I guess I just need to be patient.
Watering
I did the final watering of the night. Just before starting I took some photos. I also got some photos we took the other day of another yard we like up on the site. We’re not certain but we think we might have seen some sprouting. Perhaps by tomorrow night we’ll see something more concrete.
