As I was finishing up with the watering, I noticed that Michelle and Matt were out working on their yard… and then I noticed they were working on ours too. As you may recall from last year, Dana took the dirt pile that was on the northwest corner of the yard and weeded it, turned it, leveled it and gave it a border. We never did get around to planting anything in it, however, and this year as winter passed we noticed that all sorts of grass found its way into the bed. Dana tried getting rid of as much of it as she could but it was a serious uphill climb. Michelle decided that she wanted to help. She took a cutting from some of her sage and planted it in the bed and took a cutting from some plant she uses as ground cover and planted that as well. She made it look so easy. Guess when your thumbs are green your plants will grow. Wish my thumbs were less flesh-tone.

Watering
Now that the lawn has been aerated and possibly fertilized and maybe even seeded, it’s time to get back into the habit of watering. I ran the water on the front yard for a good 20 minutes per side. Looked like the yard was soaking it up. We’ll see. Once we confirm if the lawn was actually seeded I’ll make a decision about whether I want to add my own see. We’ll see.
Aeration, Fertilization and Seeding Oh My
After a disheartening attempt at getting our yard to return from the dead last year, it was time to take another crack at things. We decided to start things off right and get the yard aerated. Throughout the neighborhood there are signs for Mile Hi Aeration. Jury is still out on whether they are a trustworthy bunch. They came today to aerate the lawn and then do fertilization and overseeding. They claim the fertilizer is liquid so we won’t see it but they also claimed that the seeding is mixed with ther fertilizer and I see no sign of seed on my lawn. Dana called them to ask why we find no evidence of seeding and they said they’d call back. That has not yet happened. It is clear the yard was aerated though the plugs are only about 3″–not sure if that’s deep or shallow. Either way it should be better than it was last year in this regard.
Watering
When I got up this morning I started the watering. It was a bit overcast and a bit cooler than yesterday morning. There’s a good chance for rain today and it’s supposed to be in the high 80s. It looks like the yard may need mowing again soon. It’s only been a couple of days. The grass that’s growing is really growing and the yellow spots remain yellow. Ug!
Rain
It wasn’t much but last night it did rain. Barely more than a drizzle but it was more than a drizzle, it was rain. The temp also took a major drop. It was supposed to be in the high 90s and dry for the next several days and now is predicted to remain in the high 80s and have a good chance for wet (alright… it’s a Colorado chance so no breath-holding).
Watering
Just after waking up I went out to start watering. It’s supposed to be in the high 90s today (perhaps as high as 97?!). I also took care of watering the plants around the silver maple.
Watering
Shortly after I got up this morning I watered. It’s supposed to be in the 90s today and for the next several days and no rain. Ug!
Watering
As soon as I finished mowing I got the sprinkler going. Dana switched it in the middle and turned it off at the end. The yard looks much better mowed.
Mowing
I finally got to the mowing and boy did it need it. It never did rain today but parts of our lawn is again growing like crazy. If only the brown spots would take a hint.
Watering
Dana had the day off so she took care of the watering this morning. It’s supposed to be a little bit cooler (mid 80s) and it was supposed to rain but I don’t think it is actually going to rain.
